I have experienced Synesthesia

Description

You're probably wondering what exactly is Synesthesia. Well, let's see what the handy-dandy dictionary says. :D

Noun - A sensation produced in one modality when a stimulus is applied to another modality, as when the hearing of a certain sound induces the visualization of a certain color.

In layman's terms: It's a neurologically-based condition where, for example, one might see a certain number in a specific color, or one might smell something when a certain word is spoken. This person may have these extra sensories while others around them will not experience it. While cross-sensory metaphors (e.g., "loud shirt," "bitter wind" or "prickly laugh") are sometimes described as "synesthetic," true neurological synesthesia is involuntary.

How does one experience Synesthesia? Typically, those with disabilities like the blind or deaf, wind up with this. Their working senses become hyper-sensitive, so they're able to pick up different things that normal people could not.

People with head injuries or on illicit drugs have also experienced this phenomenon, albeit temporary.

And then, there are people that experience this phenomenon, not constantly, but on occasion, without having any of the above. These sorts of people are very hyper-sensitive to their surroundings and tend to be either in some form of art or in rare cases, a psychic.

As for myself, I experience Synesthesia very rarely. Mostly, I see colors when music is played, or I smell scents that aren't really there. (I still haven't discovered the trigger for that one, because it's unpleasant.) It's definitely a very strange, but interesting phenomenon that needs to be looked into deeper.

Surely, there are others around here that's experienced it too. :aww:
