BACKGROUND

Personality:
_{The best way to describe Spinny is he's a cool-headed, go-with-the-flow type of bug, despite his fiery exterior. He's friendly and quite gentle around smaller pokemon, and is very loyal and protective of his friends. However, he's also quite lazy, derpy and clumsy, mostly due to a head injury he received as a larvesta. He's a bit narcoleptic which activates whenever he's bored, tired, full of food, warm, or sometimes at random. Because of this, he tends to take naps frequently in whatever comfortable spot he can find. Spinny truly does have the strength and endurance that a typical volcarona has, but knows how to keep his powers in check unless he absolutely needs to use them. He will never hurt anyone weaker than him and will never attack first, even in battle. In fact, he'll typically avoid battles and will only fight in defense for himself or those he cares about. He would prefer sleeping or lying there idly and allowing his Flame Body ability to take care of the threat for him.
Spinny can also act very fabulous, but not on purpose. With his glorious wings and fluff, he can't help but flaunt it.}

History:
<sub>It seemed like only yesterday when Spinny could recall his times back at his old forest home. As the third youngest larvesta child in a family of seven, his life was calm, but full of work for them all. Spinel Sun never knew his beautifly father, who left the family before he hatched, but he knew his volcarona mother and larvesta siblings well and was extremely close to them. Being a sensitive sort, more-so than most of his family, Spinny loved to spend his days being close to someone else, working alongside or playing with them. He especially loved his mother: a single volcarona taking care of so many kids. She was grumpy and a hard worker; and while she would snap at the kids when they misbehaved or drove her nuts with their antics, she was a strong, loving guardian that the children looked up to. So, it was hard for all the kids when it was time to leave the nest and go on live their own lives. Spinel Sun really didn't want to leave his mother and cozy way of life, but once he came of age, big mama pushed him out into the world whether he liked it or not. Spinny protested a little, but he knew it was overall futile. She was strict and stubborn and believed once you became an adult, you had to go out and try to make your own living.

Spinel Sun was a bit slower than his siblings. He didn't really want to work, or battle, or do anything adults were supposed to do. He mostly preferred bumming it with friends and acquaintances and camp out on the beach or deep in the forest. As his life slowly ticked by, he watched as his siblings grew up, evolved, found mates and some of them even had children. But, it seemed as if Spinny wasn't interested in all that. Felt like too much work to him and he was content with his life as it was; but, that all changed when a mysterious pokemon entered the Mirage Forest. This was an oddity, since not many pokemon decided to enter the forest, especially ones that could not fly. This pokemon was a young female purrloin; a stranger that put the original forest dwellers on edge. While most hid and shut their doors before the purrloin walked by, Spinel Sun stayed put. What did he have to fear from such a tiny little girl? As he attempted to nap in his usual place, the purrloin spotted him and began to speak and bug him a little. He didn't respond and tried to ignore her, but the loud purrloin was insistent. Even attempting to drive her off with Flame Body didn't work. All of her loudness and flailing unfortunately wound up causing a small rock slide, one that happened to topple right onto Spinny's campsite, burying him and his stuff. The purrloin had escaped the disaster unscathed, but freaked out upon seeing what had happened and tried to rescue Spinny.

The larvesta, however, was in a panic and was dazed and confused. His forehead was bleeding profusely and his memory seemed foggy. Where was he? Who was he? What was going on? The panic and exertion from the event was doing something weird to his body. He felt himself... changing... growing. As soon as the strange purrloin removed a bunch of rocks off of him and the light hit his eyes, a sudden burst of adrenaline exploded from him, along with intense flames and Spinny burst from his rocky tomb. What should have killed him caused Spinny to evolve into a volcarona, but with slight amnesia. He then set his sights on the purrloin that 'saved' him. She ran, of course, thinking he was going to kill her, but Spinny stopped her sprint with a gust of wind from his wings. He wanted to speak and tell her his name and that everything was okay, but his voice was garbled with unintelligible words. The purrloin realized quickly that Spinny had a head injury and he was in deep trouble. So, she convinced him to come with her to a hospital and he could stay at her place until he recovered his memories and such. She felt it was the least she could do after what happened and the volcarona decided to go along with it.

Spinel Sun stayed with the purrloin, named Baeset, and got to know her and her small group of family and friends. They all grew to love and care for each other deeply and Spinny eventually saw Baeset as a best friend and she felt the same. As the years went by, it became obvious that Spinny had become part of the family. He still lazed about like before, albeit with a much poorer memory span, but he wouldn't refuse anyone if they asked him to do something. Mostly, he provided transport, since he could fly, but he did a lot of babysitting and (crappy) cooking and cleaning on the side too. His lookout on life was slowly changing too, especially once he bumped into the town's local caretaker: Scolly, a lovely female scolipede. Despite his memory problems and clumsiness, the two of them instantly hit it off and fell in love. Spinny began to think about things he never even dreamed about before. Love. Marriage. Perhaps... kids? He was truly becoming an adult, like his siblings had before, or at least... that's what he thought adulthood was supposed to be. Oh, to have a mate now, someone whom he could share his life with every single day, it seemed truly magical. They were inseparable for a year or so, until the scollipede decided to move to take care of a dear family member in need. Despite knowing this, Spinny was devastated and fell into a deep depression which made him stay confined to the house and lakeside. Baeset and her family seemed to be the only pokemon that could give him any sort of comfort.

When Baeset and her family decided to move to the big city of Lumiose, Spinny went with them. Not only because they were his family now, or that the town they were in was dying, but also to escape his crippling depression and memories of his lost love. A fresh start did feel wonderful to him, but he was hesitant to go out and work, let alone meet anyone new. That all changed when Baeset decided to enroll her son Tibia into a new school and herself into college. The... Armonia Institute... Mirage College? There was a spark of interest in his brain, but the push didn't happen yet. That push was done after Baeset and Tibia were gone for months at a time, aside from visits during their vacations and such. When Spinny saw how much they were changing and how happy they were, he began to wonder if maybe he could do something like that too. He could, possibly make something of himself for once. Hmm... now where were those extra application papers...?</sub>

Hobbies:
<sub>- Napping - Narcolepsy or not, Spinny really loves sleeping. It's the best way for him to recharge himself after a hard day of doing nothing... err... working! Yes, working.
- Pokemon Watching - Contrary to what others think, this is totally not stalking. Really, it's not! After all, there are plenty out there that enjoy watching feral pokemon go about their daily routines. So, watching fellow students isn't much different. It really isn't. Especially at night while they're sleeping.
- Dancing - While there are a lot of bugs that can dance well, Spinny's definitely got the beats down when he chooses to show them off. He's one heck of a tap-dancer, not to mention excellent at doing the Hustle, Bump, Lambada and the Chicken! He learned how to dance in various ways in the old town he once lived in, where the majority of his moves were taught by his friend, Baeset.</sub>

Various Genetic Facts:
<sub>- Spinny is much fluffier than the average volcarona. (Although, Seraph may challenge that.)
- He has a super-long proboscis which he inherited from his beautifly father. Sometimes it pops right out when he's excited.
- Since the accident, Spinny seems to have a hard time speaking. Instead of using normal vocabulary, all that comes out of him are gurgles, grunts, clicks and heavy sighs. He's a little embarrassed by this and tries to use body and sign language to get his points across instead.
- Spinny is a strict vegan, but it's not by choice. Like most volcaronas, his digestive system is extremely sensitive and can only handle certain foods. If he eats any meats, eggs, or dairy, he'll projectile vomit.
- Although Spinny has a really a case of narcolepsy, he claims he's still alert and can even learn better while asleep. No one can really prove or disprove this... at least, not yet.
- After the head injury, Spinny occasionally has memory problems and will sometimes forget his moves or how to do certain tasks. Luckily, such instances aren't permanent.</sub>

Various Quirks:
<sub>- Spinny prefers to keep his eyes shut or squinty most of the time, because when open, they look sleepy and also crossed about 95% the time. This didn’t happen until the head injury.
- He also has a scar on his forehead from said-injury.
- Spinny is absolutely terrified of rock slides now. Just the sound of rocks being dropped onto other rocks can make him have panic attacks. Even the sound of gravel being crushed under someone's feet can at times put him on edge.
- Spinny's considered to be extremely attractive, at least by volcarona standards, and was said to be a ladies' man back in the old town he lived in. However, there's really only one lady he's ever pursued, which happened to be a certain lovely scollipede...
- Spinny seems to have an attraction to bug-type women that are bigger and/or taller than he is. This might have something to do with the fact that in an insect society, the female is almost always bigger than the male. Then again, it might instead have something to do with the lady scollipede he once loved...
- Spinny LOVES to eat fabric. Cotton, silk, wool… any kind of fabric will do. He especially loves eating clothing, with sweaters and hats being personal favorites. However, he won't eat clothing that's still being worn by someone... at least, most of the time.
- Speaking of, Spinny sometimes brings a scarf with him, so he can nibble on that instead of his clothes... or someone else's clothes.
- Spinny's been known to suck on light bulbs for no explained reason… Maybe to relieve stress? (Is it like sticking your tongue to a 9-volt battery?)
- While Spinny can eat many types of plant matter and even wool, it is now well-known that table sugar and artificial sugar are extremely bad for him. While both can put the volcarona into a drunken state, artificial sugar is even worse, since it can act like a poison if too much is consumed.
- Sometimes, Spinny forgets how big and heavy he actually is, and will try to lean on people’s backs… with tragic results.
- Spinny loves to snuggle, but, he's not the type to just snuggle a pokemon without permission. However, if anyone decides to snuggle him at random, he'll welcome the affection wholeheartedly!
- Sometimes, Spinny will stare at the wall or into space for no apparent reason, a trance he will remain in until a sound startles him. If nothing does snap him out of it, he'll almost always doze off.
- While flying high, he tends to go upside-down, sideways and all around. His landings always involve crashing in some way.</sub>

Other Stuff:
<sub>- Spinny seems familiar, you say? Well, probably because he was Baeset's pet in PKMN-Crossing. Since he pretty much became a character in his own right, I decided to run with that idea further and evolve him into a more... anthropomorphized being.
- Yes, Spinny's name is the same as that the Cardcaptor Sakura cat character. However, since I've been using that name for so many years, it just seems too weird to change it now.</sub>
